John Cano, founder and president of Cano Electric, Inc., began his successful electrical contracting career in California in 1987. After a couple of years of dedicated work, he and a friend decided to take a vacation to Maui where John instantly fell in love with the island, its people, and its cultural diversity. Recognizing the need for skilled electrical workers on the island, John moved to Maui and worked for the electrical union on several important projects such as the Mä’alaea Power Plant and the Grand Wailea Hotel.
These days it seems everyone wants to jump on the “Go Green” bandwagon but John Cano has been alert and attentive to the energy conservation movement almost from its inception. Being Eco-minded from the start, John created a lighting retrofit and window tinting business in 1992 on Maui, with the intention of helping his customers reduce their energy consumption and save on their utility bills.
Serving on the Maui Electric Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) committee from 1992-95, John helped launch their lighting rebate program, which played an important role in the effort to get Maui County to retrofit all of their streetlights to more energy efficient bulbs.
Today, with offices on both Maui and the Big Island, John Cano and his dedicated staff at Cano Electric continue to provide customers with established energy conservation solutions and proven renewable energy technologies, as well as a superior level of customer service.
